Listen Up!

Peter Nilsson is one of the most in-demand drummers in Sweden. His varied and organic drumming can be heard in many constellations. Peter also spends part of his time in NYC, where he has worked with Anders Nilsson (his brother), Daniel Carter, Michaël Attias, Tomas Ulrich, Ken Filiano, Lindsey Horner, Dave Amrosio, Joe Fonda and Lisle Ellis among others. He has also worked with Paul Bley, Miroslav Vitous, David Liebman, Marc Ducret, Bobo Stenson, Palle Danielsson, Lotte Anker, Eugene Chadbourne, Raoul Björkenheim and Sten Sandell.

Teachers: Peter Danemo, Anders Åstrand, guitarist Mulle Holmqvist and saxophonist Per Bäcker. I have also been taking private lessons here in NYC with Milford Graves, Tom Rainey and Gerry Hemingway.

Influences: Jon Christensen, Milford Graves, Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, Jack DeJohnette, Billy Hart, Paul Motian, Joey Baron and Tom Rainey. Others that have been important are John Coltrane, Keith Jarrett, Miles Davis and Igor Stravinsky. I´m influenced by anything that feels honest, vital and has emotional content.

Current Projects: Plunge, Anders Nilsson´s AORTA, lim, Loïc Dequidt Trio/Quartet, The Opposite, Cennet Jönsson Quartet, Footloose and 15,5 plus a few other projects.

By Day: Freelancing as a performer and teacher, working on music and enjoying reading, cooking, having coffee and jogging.

I Knew I Wanted To Be A Musician When… I was very young. Me and my brother got into this at a very early age and it has always been a natural thing.

Dream Band: Can´t really say, I´m just inspired by musicians who are great improvisers and great listeners.

Did You Know? I´m a part of a Swedish musician´s collective / record label called Kopasetic Productions.
