INSPIRATION #3

March 2, 2014

Reading Peter Erskine’s book “No Beethoven – An Autobiography & Chronicle of Weather Report” recently led me to go back to a couple of Weather Report albums, especially Heavy Weather, Black Market and Mr. Gone. I listen to Weather Report a lot anyway, but reading this book inspired me to get into some of their albums more than usual.

My favorite WR albums are Live in Tokyo, Sweetnighter, Mysterious Traveller, Black Market, Heavy Weather, Mr. Gone and 8:30.

Besides that, I have also been into these albums lately:

Mario Pavone: Arc Trio (Playscape)
David Virelles: Continuum (Pi Recordings)
Jan Garbarek/Egberto Gismonti/Charlie Haden: Carta de Amor (ECM)
Arvo Pärt: Alina (ECM)
Los Muñequitos de Matanzas: Congo Yambumba (Qbadisc)
Quincy Jones: The Deadly Affair (Verve)
Börje Fredriksson: Börje Fredriksson (Odeon)

I’ve also read “Always In Trouble – An Oral History of ESP-Disk’” by Jason Weiss and “Koltrasten som trodde att den var en ambulans – en bok om ljud” by Anders Mildner.

And some concerts that’s been inspiring to me during the past six months are:

Sylvie Courvoisier Trio @ Spectrum, NYC on September 10th, 2013
Shelley Hirsch/Michael Evans @ The Old Stone House, Brooklyn, NY on September 12th, 2013
“John Zorn at 60” Masada Marathon @ NYU Skirball Center, NYC on September 15th, 2013
